President Yoweri Museveni has gifted a fully equipped ambulance worth shillings 180 million to the residents of Rukungiri district.

The ambulance was handed over to Bwambara Health Centre III clinical officer Francis Muhumuza, by senior presidential advisor on agriculture and rural development Peace Rugambwa.

According to Rugambwa, the ambulance donation by President Museveni was in partnership with senior presidential advisor on security and co-ordinator of Operation for Wealth Creation Gen. Salim Saleh.

Rugambwa, who drove the ambulance to the health centre, explained that the fully equipped ambulance with an oxygen machine is a fulfilment of the pledge she made to the people of Rukungiri.

"The President, in partnership with Gen. Salim Saleh, has fulfilled the pledge I made to the people of Bwambara sub-county some time back, and I am happy about it," Rugambwa told hundreds of the residents and NRM supporters.

The ambulance handover function took place at Bwambara play grounds in Rukungiri district on November 15, 2025.

The excited residents who took a glimpse of the ambulance shouted 'Museveni oyee', 'Peace Oyee', 'Museveni paka paka' as Rugambwa handed over the keys of the ambulance to the Rukungiri National Resistance Movement party (NRM) vice-chairperson Ambrose Kibuuka, Muhumuza and area LC1 chaiperson Ben Yakatonda.

During the function, Rugambwa urged the residents to vote for NRM presidential candidate President Museveni to protect the gains and secure their future and the NRM flagbearers.

She appealed to the residents not to elect NRM-leaning independents and Opposition candidates during the 2026 polls because the former were defeated in the NRM party primaries.

Rugambwa also asked the Rukungiri residents to form groups and open savings and credit co-operatives organisations (SACCOs) to benefit from government initiatives such as Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Women Empowerment programme, Youth Livelihood programme and the Presidential Skilling Initiative programme.

"I urge you to form groups because the President is committed to putting money in SACCOs and helping to uplift the ordinary people out of poverty," Rugambwa told the residents.

Rugambwa, who received applause from the audience, thanked and praised God, saying there is nothing too hard for God.

She read a Bible verse in Isiah 43: 18-19 which states: Forget the former things, don't dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing, it springs up don't you perceive it, I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

She reminded the residents not to dwell on unfulfilled pledges but to thank God for the new ambulance.

Rugambwa narrated to the audience that she was motivated to promise an ambulance to the residents of Bwambara sub-county after seeing a pregnant woman who was in agony on her way to the hospital being transported on a motorcycle.

"It was because of the suffering of women while being transported to the health centres by bodaboda riders that touched my heart to do something about their plight," she said.

Muhumuza said the ambulance is going to improve the maternal health care and immunisation services to the people of Bwambara sub-county, and also to be used for referrals.

During the function, Rugambwa introduced the NRM flag-bearer Paula Turyahikayo, who is contesting for the Woman Member of Parliament seat, to the audience and urged them to vote for her and other NRM candidates, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi for Rujumbura county and Gen. Henry Tumukunde contesting for Rukungiri municipality, tussling against former FDC iron lady Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti under Dr Kizza Besigye Peoples Front for Freedom PFF.

What others say

Bwambara Archdeaconry head of laity Benard Nkumirire thanked Rugambwa for the fulfilment of her pledge to the people of Rukungiri, saying it will go a long way in improving the health care services.

"At least the ambulance will work for our pregnant women who have been bearing the cost of transporting to health facilities using bodaboda riders," Mustafa Salongo said.

Doreen Ayebare, a resident of Bwambara, said that with an ambulance in place, patients can be transported to seek medical care in the health facility.

Solomon Mbabazi, a bodaboda rider, said they have been struggling to transport pregnant women to health facilities who can not pay, but now they would be transported freely using an ambulance.

Wilson Habasa, the chairperson of Boona Gageigahare Nyekundire Group, Rukungiri district, praised President Museveni for helping the people of Rukungiri, and that's why he should be voted to power.

Other concerns the people want President Museveni to address are lack of electricity, poor road network, lack of clean, safe water, and the release of the jailed People's Front for Freedom (PPF) leader, Dr Kiiza Besigye, facing treason-related charges.
