Muntu's ANT party team calls for forensic audit of Parliament

KAMPALA - The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) opposition party, formed in 2019 by Retired Major Gen Mugisha Muntu has called for a comprehensive audit of the funds used by the parliament of Uganda.
"We are saying we need a complete, comprehensive forensic audit and also another value for money audit on the expenditures of parliament and also the executive," Gerald Karuhanga, the spokesperson of ANT said during a press conference in Bukoto, Kampala suburbs.
Karuhanga was referring to reports on social media querying the expenditure by the Parliament of Uganda.
"There is continued abuse of the public resources by the executive as you have seen through various public accounts engagements," Karuhanga said.
Flanked by Winnie Kiiza, the former Leader of Opposition (LOP), Karuhanga spelled out the lack of proactive engagement from members of parliament to collectively decry institutional mismanagement and corruption.
Karuhanga accused Parliament of failure to prioritize the interests of its citizens contrary to its foundational principles of self-governance and accountability as intended by the 1995 Constitution framers.
ANT commended the creators of the Parliament Exhibition for their role in illuminating the challenges and opportunities at the intersection of technology, governance, and civic engagement.

Running on X (formerly Twitter) the #UgandaParliamentExhibition has generated debate on alleged mismanagement, corruption, and abuse of office by different leaders.
Kiiza, former LOP had no kind words for the leaders whose powers she said must be trimmed.
"We need a thorough surgery of our constitution," Kiiza said.
According to Kizza the present constitution has challenges that cannot answer the issues of the present time.
She called for the amendment of the constitution to strengthen institutions to tackle offices that suck taxpayers' money to ensure provision of service delivery.
Up to Wednesday afternoon, administrators at parliament described the reports as misinformation with some saying that the posts were based on forged documents.
Chris Obore, the Director communications and public affairs, at Parliament had dismissed reports that the money was embezzled through private accounts and insisted it was used for corporate social responsibility purposes.
