Mukono bishop Kagodo condemns politicians frustrating Anglican-founded schools

Kagodo alleges that some politicians, especially during this campaign period, have gone to various Anglican church-founded schools, telling parents not to pay ‘the maintenance fee’, which helps these schools to run some of their activities.

Mukono Diocese Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo has condemned politicians whom, he says, have frustrated support from parents in Anglican Church-founded schools.

Kagodo alleges that some politicians, especially during this campaign period, have gone to various Anglican church-founded schools, telling parents not to pay ‘the maintenance fee’, which helps these schools to run some of their activities.

‘‘As the Anglican Church, we agreed right from the founding body that all our schools will ask for a little maintenance fee from our parents to run some school activities, but some politicians have gone ahead to tell parents to stop paying it saying that the President said education in both UPE and USE schools is free of charge because the Government provides funds to them," he says.

"Our schools are government-aided, which means that the funds that the Government provides are inadequate to run all the school activities. This forced us to sit down with parents in our schools in meetings and the parents agreed to pay some money to facilitate some activates,” Kagodo adds.

The bishop made the remarks while presiding over the confirmation service at St Thomas Church of Uganda-Kiwanga in Mukono district on November 16, 2025.

Kagodo emphasised that the Church has the biggest stake in its founded schools and will ensure that all the learners enrolled in them will have a good education through the Church and  Parents’  support.

The Rev. Can. Edward Balamaze Kironde, the Archdeacon of Seeta, asked the newly confirmed Christians to stick to their faith and not to be taken up by worldly desires.

‘‘Walking in line with your faith helps you not be distracted by various wrongdoings," Balamaze said.

A total of 75 Christians were confirmed, where parents, Godparents, Christians and politicians attended.
