First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga is stable and not in critical condition, New Vision Online has learnt.

According to Busoga kingdom tourism minister Hellen Namutamba, a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party campaign taskforce, Kadaga is recovering well and has sent Christmas greetings to the Busoga Kingdom, NRM supporters and all Ugandans, wishing them a peaceful festive season and a prosperous New Year.

She adds that Kadaga has appealed to Ugandans to support President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming elections to secure his next term in office.

Namutamba shared these updates from her home in Kira municipality, Wakiso district, on December 23, 2025, while delivering her festive message.

She emphasised that Kadaga remains in good health and will soon resume her role heading the NRM mobilisation team in the Busoga region.

During the address, Namutamba thanked her colleagues for their efforts in mobilising support for the President.

She also used the occasion to urge parents to take greater responsibility for their children, warning them against leaving children solely in the care of mobile phones, noting that social media often exposes minors to harmful content.

Instead, she encouraged parents to involve children in sports to nurture talent, instil religious values, and introduce them to work environments to foster positive financial habits.

Maintain peace

Regarding the upcoming elections, Namutamba urged Ugandans to maintain peace, describing it as the nation’s greatest asset.

She appealed to voters to trust the Electoral Commission to conduct a free and fair process, advising citizens to vote peacefully and return home to await the official results.

She concluded by calling on Ugandans to "give Mzee joy" by voting for President Museveni on January 15, 2026.

Kadaga, who was recently flown abroad following health complications, has represented Kamuli district in Parliament since 1989.

As one of Uganda’s longest-serving lawmakers and a key figure in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), she served as the country’s first female Speaker of Parliament from 2011 to 2021 before being appointed First Deputy Prime Minister in June 2021.

In her current role, Kadaga has spearheaded regional integration initiatives, including the construction of a modern market at the Elegu border to address flooding and trade bottlenecks.

She has also championed social cohesion through sports and represented Uganda on the international stage, recently advocating for coordinated action against plastic pollution at the African Asian Legal Consultative Organisation.
