Buvuma Islands County Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Ndugwa Migadde has been elected chairperson of the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus in the 12th Parliament, taking over from former Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, who did not return to Parliament in the recent elections.
Migadde was elected during a meeting attended by 74 legislators from the Buganda region on Tuesday at Parliament, where MPs selected leaders to steer the influential regional caucuses for the next five years.

He pledged to unite MPs across the political divides and ensure the caucus remains focused on issues affecting Buganda and its people.
“We are going to work together as one, parties aside,” Migadde said shortly after his election, adding, “We promise to work together and keep united.”
Migadde, a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has represented Buvuma Islands in Parliament since 2011.

During the elections, members agreed on a power-sharing arrangement where both NRM and opposition legislators nominated candidates for different positions.
Mityana District Woman MP Judith Nabakooba, who coordinated discussions for the NRM side, announced that the ruling party had taken the positions of chairperson, treasurer, publicity secretary, secretary for international relations, secretary for culture, and the Cabinet representative slot, which remains vacant until a new Cabinet is constituted.
On the opposition side, the discussions were coordinated by Ethel Naluyima (Wakiso woman), who guided members in selecting candidates for the remaining positions.

The names proposed by both sides were seconded and unanimously approved by the members present.
Other NRM MPs elected were Denis Sekabira (Katikamu North, Luwero), who was elected the Buganda parliamentary caucus vice chairperson, while Cissy Namujju (Lwengo woman) took the position of treasurer.

The opposition leaders elected included David Kalwanga Lukyamuzi (Busujju County, Mityana) as general secretary, Bulasio Zambaali Mukasa (Nansana municipality) was elected as a mobiliser, while Harriet Nakwede (Kayunga woman) took the welfare position.
The positions for representatives of Cabinet and the Shadow Cabinet were left vacant pending the appointment of the new Cabinet and opposition leadership in Parliament.
