Candidates who have been contesting for the Mbarara city National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer position come the 2026 general election, have urged their supporters to remain calm, united and reconcile with each other after elections.
The July 24, 2025, call comes as the ruling party was conducting its local government council primaries across over 72,000 villages around the country. These polls follow those of the Member of Parliament seat held a week ago.
Seth Murari, who cast his vote at Kafunjo cell in Mbarara city north division, emphasised that unity is a great pillar for economic transformation of any community, including Mbarara city.
Seth Murari being congratulated by his supporters after winning at his polling station in Kafunjo, Kakiika.
Murari told journalists that as candidates, they agreed to preach the gospel of unity among their supporters and urged all candidates he was contesting with to keep the promise.
Seven candidates are competing for the Mbarara city NRM flag: Robert Mugabi Kakyebezi (incumbent), Seth Murari, Dan Kamusiime Ruhemba, Hebert Kamugisha, Kwirishaba Evelyne, Elias Ahimbisibwe Rwakiidu and Godwin Nsimire.
Murari called on all those in the race to support each other and rally votes for the party when the primary elections are done.
Elias Ahimbisibwe, who votes from Kijungu, called for reconciliation among all candidates, as this, according to him, will encourage their supporters to remain united.
Kakyebezi voted from Kibaya cell in Nyakayojo, while Murari voted from Kafunjo.
Dam Kamusiime, who voted from Kamukuzi headquarters polling station, challenged the people of Mbarara not to be influenced by haters of peace to derail them into violence.
These candidates attributed the cause of violence in the earlier party primaries for Member of Parliament on July 17, 2025, largely to buying voters, which they all condemned.
Mbarara City, which is made up of the north and south divisions, has 186 cells where voting took place.
