Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has released the Government Sponsorship on national merit admission lists for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The lists indicate that 148 students have been admitted on this arrangement.

The release comes shortly after Makerere University released its list of students admitted on the government-sponsorship scheme.

At MUST, the bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery, bachelor of science with education and bachelor of science in education courses have the biggest portion of the admitted students with 46 in each.

The other programmes under which other students have been admitted for government sponsorship (national merit) at the Mbarara city-based institution are bachelor of science in nursing with five, and bachelor of pharmacy with five.

The number of applicants admitted on this year’s scheme are six less compared to the academic year 2023/2024 intake, in which 154 students were admitted on national merit.

This year, a total of 30 females have been admitted on national merit at MUST whereas 118 males have been admitted, showing a margin of 88 (15:59 ratio).

The competitive cut off points at MUST for this year’s sponsorship selection on the national merit are:

Competitive Diploma Entry

In a similar development, the university unveiled the list of successful applicants under the diploma entry scheme (private sponsorship) which saw 12 students admitted to bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery, 10 to bachelor of pharmacy, 30 to bachelor of medical laboratory science offered at the main campus, and 38 to bachelor of nursing science at the main campus.

The diploma entry scheme selection was based on the results from the pre-entry exams which had tight pass marks such as 70.33% for males and 63.87% for females on medicine and surgery, 57.5% on pharmacy, 40% on medical laboratory science.

Highly sought for science and technological studies, MUST was established in 1989 and is one of the twelve public universities in Uganda. It is accredited by the National Council for Higher Education.
