Among those attending the conference are the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) managing director, Dr. Silver Mugisha, who was re-elected as president of AfWA for another term.

The conference, attended by West African coastal cities and East African cities, is co-hosted by AfWA and the Faecal Sludge Management Alliance.

It is themed "Acting for Sustainable Management of Resources and Access to Water and Sanitation for All."

AfWA is considered the biggest and strongest agenda-setting, policy-influencing, and solution-seeking association in Africa in the areas of water and sanitation.

Leading experts, engineers, technicians, researchers, and stakeholders have convened in Abidjan to provide solutions to challenges related to water and sanitation.

Kampala will host the next congress in February 2025.

Meanwhile, officials are working to develop Kampala into a smart city, as well as target inclusive growth and transformation.

“KCCA adopted the citywide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) approach that is based on the principle that everybody benefits from adequate sanitation service delivery," said Lukwago.
