NRM Party elections for Local council three Chairpersons and sub-county councillors in some sub-counties of Kagadi district were halted for several hours.

At Nyamacumu centre polling station, the election process for LC3 Chairpersons was disrupted due to chaos, but later resumed.

For a couple of hours, the police was engaged in running battles with the electorate arising from clashes between supporters of rival candidates, Stephen Rukaijakare, Robert Habasa and Apolo Muhumuza for the LC3 seat in Muhorro sub-county.

At Kabuga A and B polling stations, the polls were delayed due to chaos between rival candidates' supporters.

Patrick Mbasima, the Kagadi NRM registrar, said chaos in some counties was quelled by police.

He said elections were free and fair.

''Although there were some delays and chaos in some polling stations, elections were finally conducted. I call upon the electorate to be patient enough and wait for the final results,'' said Mbasima.

Daniel Rwabugiri, one of the election officials in Nyamacumu parish, said some of the irregularities arose from the disqualification of election officials due to partisan politics, interferences by the electorate from other polling stations and delay of voters due to farming activities.

''We started late due to the delay of farmers who were engaged in gardening activities, as well as the disqualification of some registrars who were engaged in partisan politics,'' said Rwabugiri.

In different interviews, the electorate preferred the secret ballot, saying that lining up behind candidates was unfair.

By press time, several Kagadi aspirants in the lead included: Nangonza Godfrey for Muhorro Town Council, Godfrey Businge for Kagadi Town Council, Godard Tumwebaze for Bwikara sub-county, Kitone Godfrey for Isunga, Businge Justus for Pacwa Town Council and Habasa Robert for Muhorro sub-county.
