National Resistance Movement (NRM) first national vice chairperson, Moses Kigongo, has appealed to party supporters to shun acts that fuel division, including persuading members who lose in party primaries to stand as independents.
While addressing NRM flag bearers at Budhabangula village in Luuka district on November 1, 2025, Kigongo said the practice of backing independents weakens the unity that has kept the ruling party strong for decades.
“Vote for someone with the NRM flag if you don’t want your vote to be wasted. Don’t engage in other people’s battles,” he said, urging members to rally behind the chosen flag bearers.

Kigongo warned against forming political cliques within the party, describing them as breeding grounds for division. He emphasised that maintaining solidarity was vital for sustaining the NRM’s political dominance.
He took time to commend Faruk Kirunda, the special presidential assistant on press and mobilisation, for his continued service to the Busoga sub-region.
“Kirunda has Busoga at heart, and he always minds about it. The spirit of that kind is good, and we need to emulate him,” he said.
On his part, Kirunda encouraged the people of Luuka to vote overwhelmingly for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all NRM candidates, saying that would allow the government to continue supporting their development.
“I am requesting you to vote overwhelmingly, and you give us strength to return and support you as well. Luuka has always voted for the NRM, and I assure you that we shall camp here and support all of you if you vote well from top to the grassroots,” he said.

Archdeacon of Kiyunga Archdeaconry Rev. Canon Moses Dhikange called for unity, reconciliation, and peace among NRM members.
Luuka resident district commissioner, Micheal Kibwika, urged NRM flag bearers to promote the party’s manifesto as they campaign ahead of the upcoming general elections.
