KAMPALA - The Electoral Commission (EC) officials met with the senior leadership of the Uganda Police Force on Tuesday (March 4) to discuss security issues and conduct during the ongoing Kawempe North by-election campaigns.
The EC was led by chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama while AIGP Frank Mwesigwa (Director of Operations) led the Police team.
The meeting at the EC headquarters in Kampala aimed to ensure adherence to laws and guidelines, prevent violent confrontations and promote peaceful elections.
By extension, this is to allow the people of Kawempe North to choose their representatives, including Member of Parliament and councillor for Kazo-Angola, without incident.
The meeting came only days after chaotic scenes broke out following the nomination of Elias Nalukoola as security forces arrested the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer and others.
Nalukoola was arrested as he and his supporters marched to a designated location after his successful nomination by the EC.
The EC was led by chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama (Pictured).
