Nominations for those expected to compete in filling the void left by Kawempe North parliamentary seat have today, February 26, 2025, kicked off with preparations by security agencies sealing off Dr Anas Kilisa road.
The road connects Tuula road to Gayaza road.
By 8:50am, several security operatives from the military, traffic, Police and Counter Terrorism Unit had been deployed.
A total of 14 aspirants are expected to be nominated today and tomorrow.
The aspirants that have picked nomination forms are lawyer Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Faridah Nambi of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Sadat Mukiibi aka Khalifah of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Ismail Musiitwa of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
Others are Henry Kasacca from the Democratic Party (DP), Moses Ntenge Nduga from the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and Fahad Kayondo from Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) party.

Other aspirants are Hanifah Karadi, Muhamood Mutazindwa aka sweet cake (PFF), Muhammad Luwemba Luswa, Hamuza Ddamulira, Jacob Kasana and Lawerence Ssemata.
EC spokesperson Julius Muchunguzi appealed to Kawempe residents not to fear the security operatives because they are providing security.
"The security operatives that we have here today are there to keep law and order as aspirants get nominated," Muchunguzi said, adding that he currently doesn't know the number of aspirants who will be nominated.

Muchunguzi said an election is not a war and that as aspirants get nominated, they shouldn't disrupt other people's businesses after being nominated.

He warned the aspirants against conducting public rallies.
Recently, EC chairperson Simon Byabakama said February 26 and 27 were nomination dates, while February 28 to March 11, the candidates will hold campaigns.
