The Kiruhura district National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairperson, Shadrack Kaguta Nzeire has acknowledged the debt of honour the Kaguta family owes to Kigongo family for their unwavering support during the tumultuous years of the bush war which played a pivotal role in ushering the NRM government under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Nzeire who was cheering a charged crowd of support that was waiting for the NRM flag-bearer for Kawempe North byelection at Kawempe Kutaano playground said that NRM vice-chairperson, Moses Kigongo, helped a great deal in a war-torn landscape dotted with makeshift camps, secret hideouts and clandestine meeting points which needed both financial and moral support.
“The Kaguta family owe Kigongo for his unfailing support during the bush war. They treated us like their own children, they provided us with everything we needed, from food to shelter. That is the reason why I have come from Kiruhura to support Faridah Nambi Kigongo who is contesting as an MP here in Kawempe. Nambi is a ministerial material and you need to vote for her," Nzaire said.
As the war raged on, the Kigongo family risked their lives to provide intelligence, hiding rebels in their homes and even helping them escape from Obote soldiers, Nzaire, who is also the brother of President Yoweri Museveni, said.
“For NRM to keep serving Ugandans, we need people who know where this country came from. Nambi has all the credentials to usher in change which has been lacking in Kawempe for the last 25 years when you were voting Opposition politicians in power,” he observed.
