The Electoral Commission (EC) in Katakwi district has received election materials for all 255 polling stations ahead of the January 15, 2026, general elections.

The materials were delivered to the Electoral Commission offices in Katakwi under tight security, escorted by armed police officers to ensure safe and uninterrupted arrival.

Stephen Makubuya, the Katakwi district returning officer, confirmed that the consignment includes election materials for the presidential and directly elected Member of Parliament elections, all sealed in black boxes.

Makubuya said the delivery of the materials demonstrates the Electoral Commission’s preparedness to conduct the elections in Katakwi district.

He also called on candidates and their supporters to remain calm and peaceful, noting that from the 2025 nominations through the campaign period to date, the commission has not received any formal complaints or reports of election-related violence.

According to Makubuya, this reflects a positive environment for a peaceful electoral process, which he urged the public to maintain on polling day.

Meanwhile, Joseph Andrew Koluo, the Member of Parliament for Toroma County, who witnessed the delivery, said the timely arrival of the materials would help ensure free and fair elections, as all polling stations will be supplied on time.

Koluo advised political actors against monetising politics, warning that vote buying leads to poor leadership when voters prioritise money over service delivery.

He also encouraged both candidates and voters to maintain peace as polling day approaches.

The Katakwi district National Resistance Movement chairperson, Robert Clare Okiror, urged voters to support NRM candidates, starting with the party’s presidential candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Okiror said Katakwi has historically supported the NRM and expressed confidence that the party will again perform strongly in the district.

Leaders from other political parties, including Raphael Mark Ojakal of the Forum for Democratic Change and Godfrey Amosai, the National Unity Platform district chairperson, also witnessed the delivery and called on voters to support the opposition.

Makubuya further announced that the distribution of non-sensitive election materials, such as ballot boxes and basins, to nearby sub-counties will begin soon to avoid delays on polling day, January 15, 2026.
