As Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, religious leaders in Kagadi district have come together to pray for peace, fairness, and unity across the country.
The prayer gathering, organised by the Interreligious Council –Kagadi Chapter, took place on Wednesday at the RDC’s office in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district and brought together religious leaders from different religions.
The Episcopal vicar of Kagadi vicariate, Msgr. Peter Kaberenge, who led the joint prayers, asked all candidates to promote peace, love and justice in the forthcoming elections.
He emphasised that the upcoming elections should be characterised by integrity, rejecting malpractice such as vote rigging and violence.
Msgr. Kabelenge also advocated for free and fair elections to ensure that the results reflect the will of the majority.
The chairperson of the inter-religious council, Kagadi chapter Pastor Magezi F Ibrahim, said the prayer meeting was successful and challenged participants to embrace the peace messages this political season.
The Kagadi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Caroline Nanshemeza, called for peaceful elections. She underscores the importance of peace in nation-building.
The Buyaga East MP Eric Musana, represented by Vincent Kamihanda Aligonzawenka, the male councillor for People with disabilities (PWDs), lauded the organisers of the prayer meeting and said that by God’s grace, the prayers will lead the country to peaceful elections.
