At Kaitabawala Cell, Buwenda ward in Jinja City, Collin Tubaime, a Lorry driver in Jinja, won with 207 votes, beating Charles Kimonyo, who got nothing.

Earlier on, voting at Kitovu and Kaitabawala was disrupted by voters who expressed dissatisfaction over poor voting procedures, but Police led by Jinja City DPC Innocent Mubangizi came in to restore the situation, and voting resumed at about 2:00pm.

At Kayunga Cell, Mafubira ward, Jinja Northern Division in Jinja City, Mohammed Kiganira enjoyed the sweet taste of victory after being elected NRM flagbearer for Kayunga Cell. Kiganira won with 300 votes while his challenger, George Bagoole, managed to get a paltry five votes.

Lukia Naisanga edged Betty Njuba for the post of chairperson NRM Women League after gathering 65 votes, and Njuba gathered 42 votes.

Voting was suspended at Mafubira Zone A and Mafubira Zone B due to unruly members who caused chaos.

It’s alleged that non-voters, mostly youth, were ferried from the ghetto areas of Wanyama and Bugembe to participate in the voting, a thing which sparked off the fighting at both polling stations.

Jinja City DPC said voting was peaceful in most of the Cells in Jinja City, adding that they are ready to provide security to areas where voting was suspended and postponed.
