IGAGA - The Iganga assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ronald Mwiisi has today, July 16, 2025, been arrested over allegedly engaging in electoral violence.

The violence reportedly happened yesterday, as National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries candidates for the Woman Member of Parliament seat concluded their campaigns yesterday.

Mwiisi, who was part of incumbent Woman MP Suada Kauma Alibaawo's convoy, was arrested with three other people after fighting with their counterparts of Mariam Seif as they met along Ngobi Road in Iganga municipality in the evening as they concluded the campaigns.

Others arrested in the incident are Ashiraf Bogere (driver), Ronald Mumbya and Pascus Zalibbu, who were all part of the Kauma convoy and slept in the Iganga Police cells.
Police also impounded three vehicles they were using in the convoy: a branded Drone (Toyota Hiace) car registration number UBF800K, Toyota Naoh registration number UAY559F and a canter registration number UAX699J, which was carrying a music system.

Seif's supporters accused RDC Mwisi of commanding Kauma's supporters to attack them and also stealing some of their properties as they met along Ngobi and Sazza streets between 7:00pm and 9:00pm.

The victims of the attack include Joel Ngobi, Ali Kulabula, Amuza Muganza and Arafat Ngobi. The individuals allegedly lost money and phones worth millions.

Normalcy returned

East Busoga Police region spokesperson Michael Kafayo said they swung into action to normalise the situation after the two camps met and engaged in violence.

He asserted that they got a report that Mwiiso was the one who commanded Kauma’s camp to attack before their counterparts also avenged them.

He cautioned candidates and supporters to avoid violence before threatening to take suspects to court over grievous assault and theft.
