The grandson of Ignatius Kangave Musaazi, who formed Uganda's first political party: Uganda National Congress (UNC) in 1952, has announced his intention to run for the Central Youth Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the 2026 General Election.

Ignatius. K. Musaazi, who says his political ambitions are rooted in his family’s values of respect, responsibility, and resilience, plans to join the race on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.

He adds that he connects his political platform directly to his grandfather’s legacy, stating that while I.K. Musaazi fought for political independence from colonial rule, his fight is for economic liberation, accountability and dignity for every Ugandan youth.

“We may not be under colonial rule anymore, but many of our young people are still trapped by unemployment, underrepresentation and inequality,” Musaazi stated.

He emphasises that his connection to his grandfather’s values is not symbolic but very practical and the fuel behind his campaign.

As a former Nkumba University guild president, Musaazi highlighted his leadership style as inclusive, purposeful, and resilient.

He successfully ran as an independent candidate, becoming the guild president, and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

The born of Nakaseke district's Timuna village in Kasangombe sub-county, is the son of Edward Ndugga Musaazi, Ignatius Kangave Musaazi's heir.

He kicked off his education journey from Wobulenzi Parents Primary School to Ssaku Secondary School for both O and A'level before enrolling for a bachelor’s degree in information technology and systems at Nkumba University.

His leadership experience began in high school, where he served as Speaker of the Student Council and Treasurer of the Interact Club. He continued to hold various leadership positions at the district and university levels, culminating in his role as Guild President.
