After nearly a week of negotiations, security forces and leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) on Thursday, October 2, reached a consensus on the campaign route and venues for presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to address his supporters in Mayuge district.
The discussions, chaired by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Lt. Ramathan Walugembe, were aimed at ensuring that Kyagulanyi’s campaign activities proceed peacefully, while also maintaining law and order in the district.
Thursday’s closed-door meeting at the RDC's office finally yielded a compromise. Though the media was not allowed inside, Lt. Walugembe said Thursday’s closed-door meeting at RDC's office finally yielded a compromise.
“We have agreed on a route that balances the interests of both security and NUP. Our expectation is that all activities will be conducted within the law, without violence or disruption. We urge the party leaders and supporters to cooperate with us fully,” Walugembe told reporters.
Kyagulanyi is expected to campaign in Mayuge district on Friday, October 03, 2025.
According to the RDC, Kyagulanyi’s convoy will enter Mayuge district through Nawanzu-Buwaaya-Wamulongo-Mpungwe-Bulyanganda, before making the first stopover at Kyoga Village, where he will introduce Hon. James Waira Kiwalabye Majegere as the NUP flag bearer for Bunya East Constituency.
From Kyoga, Kyagulanyi will proceed along the Kaluba route with a stopover at Kaluba trading centre in Busakira sub-county, where he will announce Hon. Robert Ntende as the party’s candidate for Bunya South Constituency.
Walugembe added that Kyagulanyi will then head to the district headquarters in Katwe in Mayuge town council, where he is expected to hold a main rally. At this venue, he will unveil the NUP flag bearers for the Mayuge Woman MP seat and for Bunya West Constituency.
“Our role as security is not to stop anyone from campaigning, but to ensure the safety of both the candidate and the public. If everyone respects the guidelines, the exercise will be peaceful,” Walugembe said.
However, NUP leaders revealed that the agreed route differs from the party’s initial plan.
According to Hon. James Waira Kyewalabye Majegere, NUP’s Vice Chairman and flag bearer for Bunya East, accepted the changes and urged supporters to remain united and turn up in large numbers to welcome their leader despite the alterations.
“Yes, our original program has been adjusted, but the most important thing is that our president, Robert Kyagulanyi, will be in Mayuge. I call upon all our supporters across the district to embrace the new route and show him a strong and peaceful welcome,” he said.
