EC sets final polling dates for 2026 General Election

According to EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, the 2026 General Election will kick off on January 15, 2026, with the elections for the President and MPs, including directly elected MPs and district woman representatives.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the final polling dates of the President, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Local Government leaders across Uganda, with a call to all stakeholders and the general public to observe the respective dates and comply with polling guidelines.

“All candidates, their agents and supporters, election observers and the general public are reminded to observe the respective dates and participate in accordance with the guidelines for polling for the respective elective position,” EC says.

According to EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, the 2026 General Election will kick off on January 15, 2026, with the elections for the President and MPs, including directly elected MPs and district woman representatives.

In a statement released today, November 3, 2025, Byabakama says in accordance with Article 61(2) of the Constitution of Uganda.

The National Conference for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) will take place on January 19, 2026, and the elections for councillors representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at sub-county, Town, and Municipal Division levels will be conducted on the same day.

Elections for councillors representing SIGs at municipality and city division levels will be held on January 20, 2026, while the National Conference for Workers Representatives will be on January 21, 2026.

District chairpersons, lord mayors, and councillors elections will be held on January 22 2026, while those of municipality and city division will be conducted on January 27, 2026.

According to the statement, the national conferences for the National Female Youth Representative, National Female Older Persons Representative, and UPDF Representatives to Parliament will be held on January 28, 2026.

The district and city SIG councillors’ elections will take place on January 29, 2026, while the regional conference for older persons representatives will be conducted on February 2, 2026. Elections for sub-county, town, and municipal division chairpersons and councillors will take place on February 4, 2026.

The regional conferences for regional youth representatives to Parliament will take place on February 6, 2026.

Justice Byabakama reminded all candidates, agents, supporters, election observers, and the general public to observe the respective dates and comply with polling guidelines.

“All candidates, their agents and supporters, election observers and the general public are reminded to observe the respective dates and participate in accordance with the guidelines for polling for the respective elective position,” he stated.

The Electoral Commission reaffirmed its commitment to organising regular, free, and fair elections in line with the Constitution and electoral laws of Uganda.
