Hundreds of Political aspirants on Wednesday gathered at Mityana Ssaza in Mityana Municipality to get nominated for different political positions in the Mityana District local government.
The exercise started as early as 10am with several hopefuls hoping to fill the positions of the district councillors, representing the different sub-counties.
At the nomination Centre, the Electoral Commission officers, however, struggled to verify the candidates using the digital systems, which appeared to be slowing down.
“Some of you have submitted forms with mixed-up information. In some cases, instead of naming your electoral area, many of you are instead filling the villages where you live,” one of the electoral officials complained. Additionally, most of you candidates have submitted names of nominees whose NIN numbers have not been availed. You need to carefully study the instructions," said the officer at the centre who sought anonymity.
Joseph Luzige, the NRM flag bearer for the position of the district chairperson, was among the first candidates to be nominated, followed by a number of other NRM party candidates.
Unlike before, this time the different party leaders did not pose, wear and carry party color clothes and items and no convoys were made.
Faith Tumwebaze, the NRM Mityana district registrar, noted that by 2pm, most of their flag bearers had been nominated.
“We are happy that most of our candidates have been nominated and are all qualified and are ready to contest now,” Tumwebaze said.
