Busia youth leaders reconciled, vow to support Museveni

The long-standing conflict between the district youth council and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth league in Busia district has reportedly ended.

The reconciliation reports are reportedly aimed at ensuring that National Resistance Movement chairperson, also presidential flag-bearer Yoweri Museveni, gets the highest number of votes in the district.

The two youth organs have, for a long time, not seen eye to eye over 'irreconcilable differences'. However, the groups reconciled during a youth leaders orientation meeting on November 23, 2025, convened by party treasurer Barabra Nekesa Oundo at her home in Masafu town council, Busia district.

The groups vowed to work together to hunt for President Yoweri Museveni’s votes. Each of the group's members was charged with looking for a minimum of five supporters in their respective villages and parishes.

Nekesa also reconciled the youth flag-bearers and the losers in the party primaries from Western Division, Lumino town council and Buyanga sub-county with the losers in the party primaries who have been contesting as independents.

She appealed to the youths to elect leaders who conform to the NRM ideology and not merely to fill positions. NRM, she said, has put in place social-economic infrastructure, which she noted has led to social-economic transformation.

Ahmed Kigenyi, the district youth league chairperson, said he inherited the hatred in the office, while Luke Ouma, the secretary district youth council, who represented the district youth council chairperson, said the enmity started by the past leaders has been a thorn in youth development in the district.

“This is the first time the youth organs are coming to work and reason together in the history of Busia district,” he said, adding that reconciliation will ease the tension and help in the mobilisation of votes for NRM flag bearers.

The young leaders, after cementing the relationship, vowed to hunt for votes for the party flag bearers, noting that they can not avoid letting the NRM government lose this election because the young people still expect it.

District NRM chairperson Isaac Muwanguzi confessed that he was a member of the district youth league, but he didn’t even know who the sub-county council youth council chairperson was because of the conflict in the youth structure.

Muwanguzi noted the party’s main objective is to deliver victory for all the current flag-bearers, noting that discussions are going on with the Government to enable Busia to get an industrial hub and skilling hub.
