SHEEMA - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Elections Dispute Tribunal has dismissed a petition challenging the outcome of the party’s LC5 Chairperson primaries in Sheema District.
The petition was filed by Edgar Mukundane, a former LC5 Chairperson aspirant, who contested the results of the NRM primaries held on July 24, 2025. Mukundane alleged widespread electoral irregularities, including voter bribery, intimidation, and alteration of results in Kagango and Sheema central division, Sheema municipality.
The case was brought against the incumbent and NRM flag bearer, Jemimah Tumwijukye Buhanda, who was declared the winner after securing 26,858 votes, representing 48.41% of the total vote. Mukundane, who filed the petition, finished second with 17,279 votes (31.15%).
Other contenders included Winfred Kabarokole, who received 7,579 votes (13.66%), and Steven Kabaringo Atukwase, who garnered 3,760 votes.
In its ruling, the tribunal chaired by John Musiime stated that Mukundane had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his allegations.
“The petitioner failed to prove the claims to the required legal standard and is therefore not entitled to the reliefs sought,” the tribunal ruled.
The tribunal further noted that even if the alleged irregularities had been proven, they would not have substantially affected the overall outcome of the election.
With the petition dismissed, the tribunal officially confirmed Jemimah Tumwijukye Buhanda as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for the position of LC5 Chairperson, Sheema District.
Speaking to our reporter shortly after the case dismissal, Jemimah Buhanda lauded voters for their overwhelming support and pledged to work with them toward the development of the district.
