The resident district commissioner (RDC) of Soroti, Imran Muluga, has warned the public to be wary of fraudsters during the ongoing Electoral Commission (EC) recruitment exercise.

The EC is recruiting presiding officers and polling agents ahead of the 2026 general election.

With that in mind, Muluga said some individuals and groups have reportedly been soliciting money from applicants seeking these positions.

In an interview with Etop Radio from his office, the RDC emphasised that the recruitment process is strictly merit-based. He, therefore, urged members of the public to reject and report any form of bribery, influence-peddling, or extortion.

Muluga said that several complaints have emerged from applicants who claim they were approached by people alleging to have “connections” within the EC and demanding payment in exchange for securing jobs.

He emphasised that such practices are criminal and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

His message to the public was clear: No one should pay a single shilling to be considered for any EC position, and anyone asking for money is a fraudster and will face prosecution.

Muluga further clarified that only eligible voters are being recruited for these positions.
