After addressing the rally, Museveni, who was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, took a photo with the new party members donning yellow T-shirts bearing the image of the incumbent.
The converts included those from the main opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). Those two parties have flagbearers in the presidential race, in the form of Robert Kyagulanyi and Nathan Nandala Mafabi, respectively.
As they emrged to have a group picture with the President, some of the new NRM members were heard saying they had “seen the light”.

Earlier, Museveni told thousands of his supporters that he was very happy to be with them together with the First Lady and a delegation from NRM secretariat in Kampala to present to them the party manifesto for the forthcoming election.
“NRM has been active on the Ugandan scene for more than 65 years. We started as youths in the 1960s and all those years NRM has made a number of contributions to Uganda. In the manifesto which we have put out now, we have included seven contributions of NRM but I will speak about three of them,” he said.
The seven NRM contributions include ushering in an era of peace, fostering development, wealth creation initiatives, jobs, service delivery, markets, as well as unity and political stability.

The President explained the first contribution of peace and the second, which is development, comprised of economic infrastructure and social infrastructure.
“The economic infrastructure includes roads, electricity, telephones and railways while social infrastructure includes schools and health centers,” he said, imploring people not to mix them up.

First Lady grateful
On her part, Mrs Museveni thanked the people of Kaberamaido for coming out in large numbers to show their responsibility in a national building journey together with them.
“I thank God for using the President and the NRM government to build the strong foundation of our nation, Uganda, which has brought about the peace and stability of our great homeland,” she said.
She urged the district’s electorate to remember to vote for the President and the whole line up of NRM flagbearers, come 2026, to enable the sitting government to continue building the nation.
