KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party will be sworn in for a historic seventh term of office at the helm of Uganda's leadership on May 12.
The event will take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in the capital Kampala.
A notice issued by the Office of the President on Tuesday (April 7) said "50 heads of state and governments from across the globe have already confirmed attendance".
It added that the head of public service is chairing a cross-government national organising committee for the preparations.
Museveni won the 2026 presidential election after securing 71.65% of the vote with 7,946,772 votes.
Just like in the 2021 poll, he again beat his closest challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) — and six other candidates.
The six are, in the order of how they finished behind Museveni and Kyagulanyi:
▪️ James Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)
▪️ Gregory Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT)
▪️ Frank Bulira Kabinga of Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP)
▪️ Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP)
▪️Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man's Party (CMP)
▪️Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP)
