13 Kamwenge ANT aspirants go independent after stamp mix up

KAMWENGE - Several aspirants who had planned to run under the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) banner in Kamwenge district were forced to go independent.
According to the party’s district co-ordinator, Muhammed Ruto, an unnamed official disappeared with a stamp at a critical time. Ruto shared this with New Vision Online during an interview on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Ntara town council, on the sidelines of ANT presidential candidate Maj. Gen. (rtd) Gregory Mugisha Muntu’s visit.
“By the time I came, it was too late. Many candidates had already gone independent. In Kamwenge, we have around 13 independents,” he said.
Among those who have opted to run independent but leaning to the party include Abdu Magezi, the contender for the Kahunge town council, Kamwenge district.

Lending credence to this narrative, Magezi was among those who received Muntu while he campaigned in Kahunge on Sunday.
Following the visit, just as he has done with the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and National Unity Platform (NUP), where his party has no candidates, he endorsed him as well.
“If he is a man who is calm and independent, vote for him. If he were Movement, I wouldn’t have done so,” Muntu told area residents.
“I am standing on an independent ticket to liberate Kahunge Town Council, and my symbol is a radio which reaches where a bus cannot,” Magezi responded.
Adding that his focus will be on fighting corruption and advocating for good roads, hospitals, and electricity, working with incoming leaders like Gen. Mugisha Muntu.
