KAMPALA - Police say they are hunting for socialite Christian Asiimwe, also known as Don Chris, over allegations of defrauding more than 100 Ugandans in a job scam amounting to over 500 million shillings.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, in a statement on Monday, said Asiimwe, who is reported to own a tours and travel company, is accused of running fraudulent recruitment schemes under the guise of offering foreign employment.

“It is alleged that from the year 2022 to date, Skypins Tours and Travel Company ran several advertisements on TV/radio stations and other social media networks like TikTok about job opportunities offered abroad and encouraged the public to visit their offices located at Ntinda Haruna Mall," said Onyango.

“This prompted several people to visit their offices."

The victims were reportedly promised to travel on loan after depositing half of the full payments according to different contracts for different jobs in different countries, such as Canada, the UK, Qatar, UAE and Sweden.

Police said money was reportedly paid by different victims, ranging from 3.5 million shillings to 10 million shillings, depending on different job contracts on different dates.
It is estimated that the socialite collected about 500 million shillings.

Onyango said most victims who paid were issued with company receipts and were promised to travel in a period of two to six months, but they did not travel to their planned destinations.

“The company changed their location from Haruna Mall in Ntinda in Nakawa Division in Kampala district, where the majority of the victims paid money, to Kitende along Entebbe Road in Wakiso district," he said.

After hitting a dead end, the victims approached youth and children affairs state minister Balaam Barugahare, for intervention, who later forwarded the victims to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Commander KMP for action.

On June 17, 2025, a general inquiry file was opened, and investigations commenced.

A total of 85 victims were interviewed, and their statements were recorded. Police found out that most victims paid money between the years 2023 and 2024 at Ntinda Haruna Mall, and a negligible number paid at the current office located at Kitende along Entebbe Road.

"Despite several demands for refund by most victims, the company has remained adamant with a series of threats and intimidation by one Asiimwe Christian alias Don Chris, as alleged by most victims,” said Onyango.

He said Skypins Tours and Travel Company had never been authorised to operate as an external labour recruitment agency, according to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.

After Police said they were hunting for Asiimwe, the socialite shared a video on social media denying the allegations raised against his company.

He insisted he was not in hiding and that he had travelled abroad for an engagement.
