A few minutes after facing the vetting team headed by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, the newly appointed Inspector General of Government (IGG), Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, on Friday told Journalists that she is ready to fight corruption.

Accompanied by her two deputies, Justice Batala told Journalists at Parliament that it’s not going to be business as usual when she takes over the Inspectorate of Government office, urging public officials to brace themselves for increased scrutiny and prosecutions.

"The team is ready to tackle corruption and revamp the institution because I have a lot in stock to do with prosecution. I know the task ahead is huge, but we are ready. Public servants should brace themselves. It won’t be as business as usual," the tough-talking Justice Naluzze said.

Naluzze was this week appointed IGG by President Yoweri Museveni, replacing Beti Olive Kamya, whose contract expired earlier this year. Her deputies, Dr Patricia Achan Okiria and Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, retained their positions.

Sources said all the ladies were vetted and approved by the parliamentary appointments committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.

Justice Naluzze and her team take over at a critical moment when public confidence in government accountability is under scrutiny.

According to the 2024 IGG report, nearly sh9.9 trillion is lost annually through embezzlement and misuse of public funds.
