The Greater Mukono regional Khadi, Sheikh Abdul Noor Kakande, has warned Muslims against surrendering their children to obscure Islamic organisations that claim to offer scholarships.

Sheikh Kakande made the warning at Masgid Taquwa in Kangulumira town council, Kayunga district, during Juma prayers last Friday.

Kakande said there were organisations that convince Muslims to surrender to them children to study Islam, but instead train the young souls in terrorism and rebel activities.

“Parents should carry out thorough investigations about Islamic organisations before they give them their children. They should find out if they are genuine or not. Otherwise, some of our innocent children may land in trouble after being recruited into terrorism activities,” he said.

Kakande cautioned Muslims against producing many children that they cannot afford to look after, saying the practice could be the reason why fake Islamic organisations have been successful in convincing parents to surrender their children to them.

“If you are not financially well off, why do you produce many children that you cannot look after?” he asked.

Kayunga resident district commissioner Nsereko Mutumba blamed Muslims in Kayunga district for snubbing government programmes that are aimed at eradicating poverty.

He said it was high time they embraced programmes such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model to fight poverty.

“I went through the list of groups and people that have benefited from Emyooga programme. There were a few Muslims,” Mutumba said.

He urged imams and other leaders in the district to mobilise Muslims in their areas to embrace government programmes because they are also entitled to benefit from them.

The leader of Muslims in Kangulumira county, Sheikh Ausi Nkuggwa, asked Mutumba to unite Muslims in Kayunga district.

He said there was a rift between those who support the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and those who back the Kibuli faction.
