During burial in Alebtong District on Saturday, President Yoweri Museveni, senior army commanders, plus several dignitaries shared tributes.
In a message delivered by Jacob Markson Oboth-Oboth, the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, President Museveni described the deceased as a patriotic and disciplined soldier who gave his best to the stability of Uganda.
“I was saddened to learn of the passing of Major Armstrong Obua, a brother of the Government Chief Whip in Parliament. On behalf of the Government, the NRM Party, the UPDF, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to Honourable Denis Obua upon the loss of your dear brother. Mama Janet and I stand with you in prayer during this trying moment,” the President’s message read.
The President added, “The Army has been robbed of a dedicated officer. He will be dearly missed by his family and the UPDF, where he served with patriotism and commitment. We are not only mourning his demise but also celebrating his commendable service to the country. His family and the UPDF should be proud of his legacy and carry on his good works.”

Representing the Chief of Defence Forces, Col. David Opeero hailed Obua’s “selfless contribution to the defence of the country”, outlining a career that saw him serve as platoon commander, instructor, and training officer before attaining the rank of Major in 2019.
“He will be remembered for his patriotism, commitment and devotion to service,” the CDF’s message read.
Religious leaders urged mourners to embrace peace and unity. Rev James Okaka, Provost of Boroboro Cathedral, reminded politicians to rise above divisions, especially in an election season.
More tributes
The UPDF fraternity also honoured their departed colleague with moving tributes. Col. Godfrey Anang, recruited in the same intake as the deceased, described him as a trusted guide and mentor for younger officers.

Major Nathan, from the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy where Obua was Wing Commander, praised his humility and discipline, noting that “his experience was needed most at the Academy at this time.”
Chief Whip Obua thanked President Museveni, Cabinet, Parliament, the NRM Party, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the UPDF for standing with them. “We were four siblings who always protected each other. Now only two of us remain,” he said emotionally.
Alebtong RDC and leaders of the Lango Cultural Institution also called for strength and unity, urging mourners to emulate Obua’s humour, humility, and strong character.
