"We are celebrating 50 years. That means we are celebrating God's faithfulness," Kaziimba told a congregation filled with high-profile people.

"Fifty years is a great milestone at a time when marriage is under attack.

"We have so many people who are making vows. Some are together, but in reality, they divorced a long time ago. People sleep on the same bed, but it is the devil that sleeps in between them," said the archbishop.

"At a time when marriage is under attack, celebrating 50 years means these two [the Mbabazis] have learnt to forgive each other and forget. They have learnt to love, to adjust, to be husband and wife."

The Mbabazis tied the knot on April 1, 1974.

Five decades later, they will have been pleased with the large number of people who showed up at All Saints Cathedral to join them in celebrating 50 years of marriage, including top Government officials and religious leaders.

Among those in attendance was Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Mbabazi's long-time friend and former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

Religious leaders, including Kampala Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere and Kassim Nakibinge, the titular head of the Muslim community in Uganda, were also part of the long list of notable attendees.

The first reading was extracted from Songs 8:6-7 while the second reading was from 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.
