WAKISO — I am a senior mathematics teacher with 10 years of experience. I am a 34-year-old Ugandan who graduated from Busitema University.
I am currently the head of the mathematics department of St Julian High School, Gayaza. I attribute my success to learner-centred teaching methods and the creation of scenario-based questions in students' daily lives.
This helped them to understand how to approach questions in the final examinations. We also undertook regular testing and revision, and it built their confidence.
I advise my colleagues out there who do not teach just for the sake of completing the syllabus, to ensure that every competency and learning outcome is achieved per lesson.
Always be available to assist the learners because they will usually find difficulty in responding to the tasks.
