In 2021, the name Julius Ssekitoleko gained widespread recognition when rumors circulated that he had gone missing during the Tokyo Olympic Games. This incident led to his suspension from the National team by the Uganda Weightlifting Federation (UWF) on grounds of misconduct.

However, during the selection process for the Uganda weightlifting team for the All Africa Games in Ghana, held at the Ultimate Fitness gym in Bugolobi, Ssekitoleko emerged as one of the 11 athletes chosen to represent the country.

UWF President Salim Musoke emphasized that Ssekitoleko's return to the national team is a result of his hard work and dedication. Musoke stated, "He is our athlete, he is my son. I met Ssekitoleko at a younger age. He was misled, but I am glad that he is back on track, and I am hopeful that he will qualify for the Olympic Games."

Upon his selection to the national team, Ssekitoleko pledged to train rigorously with the aim of winning a medal at the All Africa Games scheduled for March 8-23 in Accra, Ghana.

"The same energy I have used to qualify is the same energy I am going to double to put up a good performance. I promise Ugandans that I will work hard to fulfill my dream of winning a medal for Uganda," Ssekitoleko expressed.

The team, consisting of three females and eight males, will be captained by Lydia Nakidde and is expected to enter the training camp as soon as possible.

"I am glad that the federation bosses entrusted me with the power to be the team captain. I promise not to disappoint. Being at the All Africa Games means a lot to me because I have never had such an opportunity. It energizes me to train more so that I can put up a great show at the All Africa Games," Nakidde explained.

The qualified athletes include Shabra Mutesi, Aisha Namataka, and team captain Lydia Nakidde. The male representatives are Najib Kivumbi, Shaban Kimbowa, Davis Niyoyita, Julius Ssekitoleko, Robert Kaweesa, Paul Kigongo, Stephen Ojede and Dan Tumukunde.

The All Africa Games are scheduled for March 8-23 in Accra, Ghana.
