Uganda's early arrivals set for Paris Olympics

Cyclist Charles Kagimu, rower Kathleen Noble and swimmers Jesse Ssengonzi and Gloria Muzito will be the early birds in France for team Uganda ahead of this year’s Paris Olympics, July 26-August 11.

Kagimu who has been training in Kaplagat/Iten Kenya will after the flag off head straight to the airport with his coach Ishaka Bukenya and head to France, ahead of his race on August 3.

Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo who have a 10000m final on August 2, as well as Joy Cheptoyek, Esther Chebet, and Belinda Chemutai who will compete in the 5000m first round the same day and Peruth Chemutai who will compete in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase Round 1 on August 4, will follow suit on July 29.

Another batch of athletes will depart on August 1 before the marathoners including Victor Kiplangat, Stephen Kissa, Andrew Rotich Kwemoi, Rebecca Cheptegei and Marceline Chelengat fly out on August 7 ahead of their event on August 10 and August 11 (for the women).

The team has been preparing from different locations including in Kapchorwa, Bulambuli, USA, and Spain.

Uganda will be represented by 25 sportsmen from athletics (21), cycling, rowing and swimming, accompanied by ten officials/coaches.

They include Ishaka Bukenya (cycling), Dr James Anthony Martinez and Batenga Nakisozi (rowing), Tony Kasujja (swimming), Benjamin Njia, Peter Chelangat, Grace Chesang, Faustino Kiwa, Paul Okello and Adrianus Ruiter from athletics.
