Uganda is set to miss some of its best athletes in the forthcoming international sports events.

This follows a fallout between numerous federations and athletes.

With the Commonwealth games a few months away, weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko who went missing in Japan during the Tokyo Olympics was left out on the team that traveled to Mauritius for the last qualifier pending clearance from the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC).

“We haven’t got any letter of clearance from the government to Uganda Olympic Committee clearing the weightlifter to resume representing the country. Unless we do, he will still be sidelined from national team duties,” revealed  Salim Musoke, the president of the Uganda Weightlifting Federation.

Musoke continues that it’s the international weightlifting federation that can summon the athlete after seeding him but if not, he stands no chance to feature at the Commonwealth Games.

“Ssekitoleko missed the first World Weightlifting Championship and now the second one in Mauritius. It will only be IWF to summon him since he was ranked 6th in Africa,” Musoke revealed.

In the same line, the Orland brothers Aviv, Stav, and Alone Orland are set to miss out on representing Uganda in any motocross event both on the continent and internationally.

This comes as a result of a misunderstanding between Motorcycling Association of Uganda(MAU) and the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU)

“As long as you claim not to transcribe to FMU, then how can we be tasked to approve and issue licences to your riders?," asked Dipu Ruparelia, the President of FMU.

Uganda Table Tennis Association players who are allegedly not in good books with president Robert Jjagwe have also missed out on international events like the championship that was held in Cameron last year which saw some of the best athletes being left out just because they are never in agreement with the decisions made by the president.

The sidelined players were instructed by Jjagwe to denounce their defiance or else they will not represent Uganda anymore.

However, National Council of Sports (NCS) general secretary Bernard Ogwel cautioned the athletes who feel aggrieved to write to the council and seek its guidance on how to solve the pending challenges.

“NCS does not work on rumours. But I advise all the aggrieved parties to write to the technical committee for help and we shall provide the necessary support,'' reasoned Ogwel.

Olympians Shadir Musa, Catharine Nanziri, and David Ssemujju who joined professional ranks also risky not to take part in the Commonwealth Games.
