Ever since he was released on Police bond last week, weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko's sporting career, as well as his life, have changed.

On Monday he was handed a motorcycle to help him supplement his daily income plus sh2m from Sylvia Namutebi commonly known as Maama Fiina.

Ssekitoleko who missed out on Olympic qualification and was deported back to Uganda after disappearing from camp in Japan, thanked Maama Fiina for the support.

“I'm very happy that Maama Fiina has given me this bike and surely I am going to create a sustainable source of income for my family and my unborn child,” Ssekitoleko noted.

The items were personally delivered by Maama Fiina at the home of Ssekitoleko’s mother in Kisugu.

Maama Fiina who expressed her surprise that Ssekitoleko went to Japan without qualifying for the games, was not happy with the way the 20-year-old was treated upon his return.

“He had not qualified but went to Japan which was wrong in the first place. But again, he should not have been put in prison like a thief because he is a national figure,” Maama Fiina noted.

The weightlifter was advised to never at any moment abandon sport since it’s the source of his fame.

“I was touched as a parent with the way Ssekitoleko was handled. His life was at a standstill since he had sold his own motorcycle to foot his training bills as he prepared for the Olympics, a dream that didn’t come through as he had anticipated,” she added.

Ssekitoleko’s mother Juliet Nalwadda thanked Maama Fiina for the kind heart she showed towards her son.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Maama Fiina for the kind heart and generosity shown to my son. This is a good motivation for my son as he revives his career,” Nalwadda noted.

Desire Nampewo, Ssekitoleko’s expectant wife pledged to Maama Fiina to be of great influence in her husband's life and the decisions he makes.

“I thank you for the helping hand and I pledge to be a woman of great influence in the life of my husband and never will he get into the same situation of abandoning his family because we love him and care about him regardless of the situation.”
