Singer Lil Pazo Lunabe, renowned for his hit song Genda Ogule Emotoka, has issued a warning to aspiring musicians regarding sponsorship offers from women older than them.

He said these opportunities, often disguised as career promotion, may come with undisclosed conditions that could later destroy their careers.

In a recent interview, the singer expressed concern that older women sometimes entice young artistes with promises of career advancement, only to exploit them for personal gratification.

Lil Pazo described a pattern where these women lavish gifts like cars, clothes, and perfumes on emerging artistes, manipulating them to conform to their desires. However, he said once a newer and younger talent emerges, these women swiftly abandon the previous artistes, leaving them stranded.

"Women have spoilt the music industry. They come, do everything for an upcoming young artiste, buy them a car, clothes and perfumes and put him in the league they want. When another artiste comes up, they switch to the new artiste at once, dumping the first artiste leaving him with nowhere," Lil Pazo said.

The issue of sugarmummies in the music industry has long been a topic of discussion in Kampala. Many have pointed fingers at singer Grenade Official, who openly acknowledged his preference for financially-stable partners.

In 2022, Grenade Official faced police scrutiny after allegedly making violent threats following a breakup with a woman who had been supporting his music career financially.

Another artiste, Jovan Luzinda, echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the pitfalls of relying on relationships with older women for financial backing instead of focusing on personal growth and independence. Luzinda recounted his own challenges in a relationship with an older woman who had supported his music career.

Various Ugandan artistes have been associated with dating older women. The list of these includes; Guvnor Ace who dated Monalisa (aged 75), Grenade Official and Nalongo Maggie Kiweesi, Jose Chameleone and Griet Onsea, and AK 47 and Nalongo Maggie.

However, taking the Islamic route, dating older women is not in any way close to a sin. It is rather a good way of life as Prophet Muhammad (SAW) married an his first wife, Khadija, aged 40, when he was just 25 years.

Globally, the issue of younger men marrying older women is normal. To those that date or marry older women, it's as knowing as living life to one's fullest. French politician Emmanuel Macron married Brigitte Trogneux, who was 25 years his senior in 2007.

Similarly, comedian and television host, Nick Cannon, was married to singer Mariah Carey who was much older than him. Actor and producer Jason Momoa best known for his role as Aquaman married actress Lisa Bonet, who is 12 years older than him.
