Willy Ngoma, spokesperson for the armed group AFC/M23, died on Tuesday, February 24, according to several local and international media outlets.
Ngoma was reportedly fatally wounded in airstrikes allegedly carried out by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) in Rubaya, according to Radio Okapi, operated by the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The military operation, which reportedly had several casualties, took place around 2:00am on Tuesday, February 24.
Willy Ngoma was a military leader of the March 23 Movement (M23) since February 2024.
The attack comes 13 months after the AFC/M23 took over the city of Goma.
