AMOLATAR - A housewife is being held at Amolatar Central Police Station over allegedly cutting her husband on the head for failing to buy meat for the family for Christmas.

Denis Obua, 44, a peasant farmer and a resident of Abutataro village, Alemere parish, Agwingiri Sub-County in Amolatar District, was cut by his wife, Milly Acen, on the back of his head on Christmas eve.

The Police swung into action and arrested the suspect after a photo of the victim was shared on social media platforms.

North Kyoga regional Police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, said it was established that the victim Obua, was involved in a relationship with another woman and on Christmas eve bought her meat and failed to do the same for his family and this annoyed his wife Acen.

Okema said they established that when Obua went back home at around 10:00 pm, he was attacked by his wife and in the ensuing fight, Acen picked a panga from the house and cut him on the back of his head, injuring him seriously.

The chairman LC1 of the area, Patrick Okwir, was informed of the incident and rushed the victim to Amai Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Okema noted that Police visited the scene of the crime with scene of crime officers who documented it.

The Police recovered the panga from the scene of the crime and exhibited it as evidence.
Acen was arrested and detained at Amolatar Central Police Station while inquiries into the matter continue.

“We want to condemn very strongly the acts of the woman of taking the law into her hands,” Okema observed.

He said once the investigation is complete, the woman will be charged and the file taken to the resident state attorney for perusal and advice.

Christmas celebrations

The Police said Christmas celebrations were generally peaceful in the Lango sub-region with no serious incidents disorganising the general celebrations.

Okema said they however registered some isolated cases such as domestic violence, motor accidents, murders, and fire outbreaks.

He said the peace was a result of earlier planning by the regional police commander and his team, including territorial Police at the district level headed by the regional police commissioner.

“We conducted community policing, impromptu operations, foot, and motorised patrol, and use of CCTV camera in urban centres and highways was very helpful since the team at command centres were able to alert ground commanders to respond to incidences,” Okema said.
