"Well, I'm dead, really. The adrenaline is taking its toll on me now. It has been a special moment."

-- Merino on his 119th-minute header to send Spain to the Euros semi-finals.

"The match we were all waiting for, between two of the best teams in the world. It could be a World Cup final or a Euros final, those who have come off the bench have a very high level. We have shown that we know how to suffer, that we have a great team."

-- Merino on the clash between two of Euro 2024's most in-form sides.

"Exhausted, really. It is a source of pride, what a great team we have, how we have fought until the end. It's incredible, a lot of joy."

-- Spain's Dani Olmo who scored the opening goal.

"What we have achieved is historic, winning this match is like a Euros final. We have already celebrated, but we have to recover because in four days we have a semi-final."

"We threw everything in, to lose when we were so close, is bitter... We can all be proud, because of what we did. I was happy to help out, I think we gave German football hope again and we got better as we went along. I think the team will do it in the future, but today we're extremely sad because we would have liked to stay a little longer."

-- Germany's Toni Kroos who announced he would retire from football at the end of Euro 2024.
