YUMBE - The early morning skies opened up with a heavy downpour starting around 3 a.m. and lasting until 9:00am, marking the first significant rainfall of the new wet season in the West Nile region.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, residents turned up in large numbers to commemorate 23 years of uninterrupted peace in the region.

The rains, though long-awaited, transformed the roads into muddy trails and brought with them a chilly breeze.

Yet, as the clouds cleared, gentle and friendly sunshine bathed the region, warming spirits and setting the perfect tone for celebration.

The event was graced by thousands of citizens from all walks of life, community leaders, local government officials, members of parliament and ministers all gathered with joy and gratitude, reflecting on the journey of peace and stability that has transformed lives in West Nile over the past two decades.

President Yoweri Museveni was the Chief Guest at the historic event taking place at Geya primary school playgrounds in Bijo sub-county, Yumbe district.

The peace day was celebrated under the theme "Consolidating 23 years of peace and security in West Nile region for socioeconomic transformation".
