Weekly Market Wrap: Baroda top movers in turnover

KAMPALA - Turnover at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) surged this week, reaching sh430m as telecom firm MTN and Airtel released their earnings report.

This week’s market turnover represents 351.67% compared to last week's turnover of sh95.3m according to data from Crested Capital.

Bank of Baroda (BOBU), Umeme, and MTN Uganda emerged as the top movers in terms of turnover. BOBU led the pack with a turnover of sh181.5m, followed by Umeme with sh121.1m, and MTN with sh100.5m.

Stanbic dealt sh26.1m, Quality Chemicals Industries Limited (QCIL) exchanged sh888,750, dfcu Limited (DFCU) traded sh114,000, Airtel Uganda moved sh87,890, while Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) dealt a minimal amount of Ugx884 ($0.23).

Stock price movements

In terms of price movements, only Stanbic recorded a change from last Friday's close, advancing by 0.78% to close at sh32.50 per share. Other counters remained unchanged, with MTN closing at sh170, BOBU at sh15, Umeme at sh400, QCIL at sh52.50, DFCU at sh225, Airtel Uganda at sh87, and UCL at sh13.

Cross listings

On the cross-listings, all the counters were gainers: Jubilee Holdings Limited took the lead, advancing by 7.67%, KCB Group appreciated by 7.30%, Nation Media Group rose by 4.60%, Centum Investments gained 3.96%, Equity Group Holdings added 2.67%, and East African Breweries Limited closed at 1.35% higher.

The USE All Share Index (ALSI) rose 1.59% to its 2-month high of 928.64, while the C11 – Crested’s local companies’ index closed 0.12% higher at 96.41 index points.
