SOROTI CITY - Voting has started in several parts of Soroti city after election materials reaching the polling stations on time.

However, there are reported delays in some parts, mainly caused by the late arrival of officials and agents required to witness the opening of ballot boxes, as well as technical failures of biometric voter verification machines.

At Moru-Apesur Primary School in Soroti City East, which hosts seven polling stations, voting had not started by 8:30am because the biometric machines failed to power on.

Poll officials were seen struggling to activate the devices as voters queued patiently waiting to cast their ballots.

Returning officers at the affected polling stations declined to comment on the matter, but this reporter observed them contacting their superiors for guidance on how to proceed.

By press time, efforts were ongoing to resolve the technical challenges and allow voting to commence.
