Multimedia giant Vision Group has partnered with Mukono Anglican Diocese to raise over shillings nine billion for the construction of a majestic cathedral.
The partnership aims to support the diocese's efforts to build a larger and more modern place of worship to accommodate over 5,000 churchgoers, which will serve as a symbol of faith and spirituality for the community.

“The current cathedral, while historic and revered, can no longer accommodate the growing congregation. We have come to you for your support towards fundraising to build a new cathedral and increase its carrying capacity,” Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo said on August 6, 2025.
"We need more than nine billion but when we organised a fundraising dinner at Hotel Africana recently, we could not raise the required amount of money needed to construct God’s house and that’s why we need your input," Kagodo added.
"It is now part of Independence Day celebrations on October 4, 2025, that we shall organise a cathedral run and a health camp to mobilise resources for the construction of the cathedral."

“We invite Vision Group to be our best partners to promote our event and help us raise the targeted shillings 600 million to fund this noble cause,” Kagodo added.
Hailing Vision Group for the distinguished support during his consecration and enthronement ceremony as the fifth Mukono bishop on February 26, 2023, at St Philip's and Andrew's Cathedral, Mukono, Kagodo said: “You gave us an opportunity to air our voice during the enthronement ceremony for free, which confirmed that everybody has his or her role in the Kingdom of God."
Wanyama pledges to support
Vision Group chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director Don Wanyama pledged to support Mukono diocese to raise the required money to fund the project.
“As Vision Group, we have been partnering with faith-based organisations and that’s why we supported the northern Uganda cluster during the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at Namugongo in Kampala, supported Kampala diocese in fundraising for the construction of Lubaga cathedral and many others,” he said.

“Nine billion is big money but where there is a will, there is a way,” he said adding: “No matter how long it takes, the house, which can never fail to be completed is the Church.”
The idea of constructing a new cathedral has been on the cards for some time, with the diocese's leadership emphasising the need for a larger and more modern place of worship.
According to Wanyama, the partnership will involve a range of activities, including fundraising, marketing and community engagement.
“We have trained a number of runners from Vision Group to compete with elite runners during the run to make the necessary awareness campaign towards this noble cause,” he said.
For over 100 years as a grass-thatched local church in Mukono diocese, it kept improving with renovations due to its limited space calling for new designs to construct a new face of the diocese.

“We have just started on the foundation, but this work shall take two years to complete as planned if we can access the necessary resources for the construction,” diocesan resource mobiliser the Rev. Abel Serwanja Merewooma said.
“It would not have been possible to start the work of God if local Buganda Kingdom chief Ham Mukasa never donated the Church land to us,” Merewooma said.
Merewooma hailed the partnership with Vision Group as a significant milestone in the project's development.
“The fundraising campaign for the cathedral construction has already begun, with the diocese and Vision Group working together to mobilise resources and support from the community,” he revealed.
The diocese is also seeking support from well-wishers, philanthropists, and organisations to help complete the project.

Mukono Cathedral vicar the Rev. Daniel Balabyekubo revealed that the new cathedral shall serve as a beacon of faith and spirituality, providing a larger space for worship, community gatherings, and spiritual growth.
“The cathedral is long overdue and will have a profound impact on the community,” he emphasised.
Others who graced the function were Seeta archdeacon Ven. Can. Edward Balamaze, the Ven Rev. Can. Godfrey Ssengendo and Moses Kikaawa, the resource mobiliser and member.
