Acting Principal Judge Justice Okuo Jane Kajuga has launched a video conferencing system at Mukono High Court.

After launching the system on May 14, 2025, she inspected a guard of honour mounted by Uganda Police Force and later held a private meeting with the judicial officers. The event is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This was followed by a video conferencing court session, presided over by Justice Jacqueline Mwondha (Resident Judge, Mukono Circuit). The court system was connected to Kauga Main Prison.

In attendance was Supreme Court Justice Christopher Madrama, who is also the chairperson ICT & documentation committee, Justice Rosemary Bareebe and Justice Mary Kaitesi Kisakye (resident judges, Mukono High Court), acting chief registrar Pamella Lamunu Ocaya and Annet Mpabulungi Wakabi, who represented the UNDP country representative.

Others were John Paul Odoku (acting registrar, planning, research and development), Judiciary public relations officer James Ereemye Jumire Mawanda, and Simon Peter Opolot (head of policy and planning), who represented the permanent secretary/secretary to the Judiciary, among others.

Various justice actors, including advocates, local leaders, religious leaders and the public, turned up in big numbers to witness the launch.

Video conferencing in courts enables remote witness testimony, hearings and participation in court proceedings, improving efficiency and access to justice. It allows individuals to participate from remote locations, reducing the need for physical transfers of detainees or witnesses.

There was also a video conferencing symposium to gather user feedback on the application of the Video conferencing system in the court business processes. The feedback will guide the Judiciary on how to enhance the video conferencing system.
