Police are appealing to the public to help identify four people who died in a fatal road traffic collision at Kakerenge on the Kampala–Gulu highway on October 8, 2025.
The accident, which occurred at around 4:00pm, involved three vehicles: a truck registration number UBD 370A heading towards Luwero, an Isuzu Forward lorry loaded with stones registration number UBP 701A, and a taxi registration number UAX 332F, which was offloading passengers.
According to eyewitnesses, the lorry was ascending a corner when the speeding truck collided with it before also ramming into the stationary taxi. The impact left four occupants of the taxi dead and several others seriously injured.
A woman who had just alighted from one of the vehicles was trapped under the truck’s tyres and died instantly as residents struggled to retrieve her body.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem.
On Thursday, October 9, officers at Watuba Police Station revealed to New Vision that the deceased remains unidentified.
Matugga division police commander Yudaaya Mugoya, in a separate interview on Thursday, said: "We are waiting for the relatives to come for the deceased, but right now we haven't seen anyone. We urge people or relatives to come identify and pick the deceased."
Residents, led by Francis Ssentongo, blamed the crash on reckless driving, saying the area is accident-prone and that nine people have died there since August.
Mugoya said investigations into the incident have begun and urged motorists to exercise caution, especially along the busy stretch of road.
