Vice President Alupo to preside over 6th UK- East Africa Health Summit

KAMPALA - The Vice President, Jessica Alupo, is expected to be Chief Guest at the 6th UK- East Africa summit in London from April 25-26, 2022.

The summit whose theme is “Building back better” will aim at integrating Climate Action for health into global covid 19 recovery plans is expected to attract health care professionals from East Africa.

Dr. Nik Kotecha of Morningside pharmaceuticals, a Ugandan Born British citizen who is one of the sponsors of the summit has played a key role in improving healthcare in Uganda.

He recently donated an oxygen processing plant worth sh300m and an ambulance worth £40,000 (sh190m) to a health facility in Mukono during the COVID pandemic.

Outgoing Uganda’s high commissioner to United Kingdom His Excellency Julius Peter Moto will also be a keynote speaker during the summit that is expected to attract health professionals from East Africa.

Ambassador Moto who is Patron to the Ugandan Nurses in the UK has been a key player in encouraging Ugandan health care professionals to play a role in participating transformation of Uganda’s health care sector.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine, who is the co-chair Uganda UK health alliance is also expected to brace the summit.

Atwine has been key in transforming health care in Uganda working with the British Government.

Other key speakers expected at the summit include H.E Manoa Esipisu the Kenyan High Commissioner to the UK, Susan Mochache the Principal Secretary Ministry of Health from Kenya, Professor Abel Makubi the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Tanzania and Dr. Asha Rose Migiro who is the Tanzania UK Ambassador.

Others expected at the conference include Lord Popat UK Trade envoy to Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr. Ahmed Ogwel Ouma, the Deputy Director at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and Lord Benjamin Mancroft a distinguished UK political figure who also has huge experience in business.

Moses Mulimira lead Uganda UK health alliance thanked Lord Dollar Popat (UK Trade envoy to Uganda and Rwanda) for the continuous support in improving Uganda’s health care. 

Mulimira added that the summit will attract potential investors in health care in Uganda.

Other sponsors of the summit include the host British medical journal, Morningside pharmaceutical ltd, the British medical journal and welcome Trust.
