East Busoga Bishop Paul Hannington Suubi has urged those in authority to use it to build than using it selfishly to destroy.
He says Christians are celebrating Christmas when the nation is amidst uncertainties, distress and anxieties.
Ssubi's message is contained in his December 23, 2025 Christmas message where he implored security agencies to desist from using excessive force in the ongoing election season.
Instead, Suubi appeals to them to apply what he termed as logic and reason while exercising their mandate to ensure a peaceful exercise.
Exercise rights responsibly
The bishop urges all active stakeholders in this process to refrain from using provocative language saying they needed to exercise their rights and freedoms responsibly without abusing the freedoms and rights of others.
Since Jesus’s birth reflects peace, Suubi said as Christians, there is no better time than today when the country was heading to the 2026 general elections.
“May we allow Jesus the Prince of peace to be born anew in our lives such that He creates in us that passion for peace all through the festive and electoral season and all days ahead,” the statement reads.
He says there is a need to ignore differences that would cause people to conflict with each other but concentrate on what binds them together as children of God, Christians and Ugandans.
In exemplifying peace, the bishop called upon Ugandans to feel for each other, listen, forgive and love one another.
