KAMPALA - Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is set to integrate its system with the National Drug Authority (NDA) to ease the clearance of import consignments for healthcare products under the scope of the regulation of NDA.

URA’s business process analysis team and the NDA recently conducted a validation exercise for the proposed requirements for the Integrated Regulatory Information Management System (iRIMS) and ASYCUDA world.

The validation exercise comes at a time when NDA is undertaking the development of a scalable web-based platform to enhance its enterprise business processes.

“This means that all our processes are going to be integrated to facilitate system seamless flow and improve productivity for both organizations and the stakeholders,” Mark Barigye, the Inspector of Drugs at NDA explained.

The specific integration requests include; validation of Tax Identification Numbers of Non-individuals and individuals engaging with the Authority and synchronization of the Tax Identification information to the NDA iRMIS.

Speaking at the opening of the two-day validation exercise, Susan Nakaleya-the Supervisor Customs Business at URA welcomed the initiative and noted that URA strives to engage its different stakeholders when undertaking re-engineering of its processes to ensure their success.

“It is our policy at Uganda Revenue Authority that all integrations undergo a thorough change management process for good process re-engineering, so for every integration embark on, we involve stakeholders from the beginning up to the rollout. This ensures that they are aware that whatever we are bringing on board is for all of us which breeds a sense of ownership,” she stated.

The workshop was attended by participants from Uganda Revenue Authority, National Drug Authority, bonded warehouse operators, pharmacists, and clearing agents whose input will be considered prior to the requisite approvals and the integrations.
